          Cutter now was Captain of 'is own vessel "The Darksail". And a mighty fine vessel she be! She was a large  3 masted Brigantine. She be a fast ship too. One of the fastest in all the Cartells. Cutter sailed er out on her maiden voyage to the same straights of Tang-Hua 'e ad plundered while aboard the Nova. Time and time again 'e came back with a large booty for the Sea Glenn Cartell and never once did 'e ave to sink a Tang-Hua Vessel. Cripple em 'e would or run em afoul of the reefs and let there crews go. No need in wastin space aboard 'is vessel for ransom or slave prisoners was 'is thought.

          'E worked 'is way through the ranks of the Cartell a might fast 'e did. Till soon 'e earned the title of Pirate Lord. The Sea Glenn Cartell became the most powerful and wealthy of all the Cartells and Cutter worked to get the Cartells to work together 'e did. That was the start of the Cartell Council gatherins once a year. Soon the Cartells they made Cutter Pirate Lord of all Corsica they did!

The Tale of Sir Cutter McMain Part IV

 

 

 

 

Well Cutter 'ad become Pirate Lord of all Corsica and 'ad brought all the Cartells together makin Corsica stronger for it. Aye!twas a golden time that would last for years to come, but not as golden for Cutter.

       Cutter decided one fateful eve to take a final cruise wid 'is old mates aboard the Darksail. Twas a full moon, but blood red it twas.His mates were wary as twas Aye we warned 'im we did to pick another night but Cutter feared nuthin. 'E said we were being foolish superstitious children. Aye I wish that were da case! We knew a bad omen when we saw one. Cutter sailed on the late evenin tide for a cruise around Corsica. That would be the final night for many a year that we would see im again.

       Only one of 'is mates ever came back to tell us somethin of that night before the poor wretch died of exposure and wounds. Seems that the Darksail was roundin the Western Bluffs and sailin farther out to avoid the dangerous riptides that be there when the lookout spied another sail comin hard and fast from the port bow. It twas Barbarosa's ship and she was flyin fightin colors! As the two vessels closed Cutter hailed the vessel and asked if there be enemies near. Barbarosa answered by firein a broadside of pepper shot and killin alot of the crew on one pass. The details be sketchy after that for the mate tellin the tale was wounded bad, but 'e awoke for a bit to see Cutter in shackles as well as what was left of the crew. The Darksail ad been captured by another Corsican vessel. Aye twas against all the new rules Cutter had passed about not firein on or capturin another Corsican vessel in Corsican waters. Barbarosa ad taken The Pirate Lord 'imself and 'is prize vessel the Darksail.The mate tellin us the tale was pushed overboard with all the other wounded and left for the sharks.

The last 'e saw of the Darksail and Barbarosa's ship they were headed for Tang-Hua waters. That was all the poor wretch told us before 'e died.

       The council was informed and the highest price in Corsican history was put upon Barbarosa's head Dead preferable to alive. His holdins and lands were seized by the council and his Cartell was properly fined and lost great favor in the council. But what of Cutter? We would not find that out for 3 years.
